Leaving Cert Biology Revision Task

Hexagonal thinking activities help the students develop their critical thinking and also make connections. This activity also helps to develop the students’ ability to justify their answers which is a vital skill, especially at Higher Level.

This resource contains a PDF file with terms from the chapters covering Food, Enzymes and Digestive System set into hexagons. The students will be join each concept on a hexagons with up to six other concepts and they will link up concepts and justify their choices.

I will use these when trying to revise topics, or at the end of a chapter to get the students to see how it is linked to other topics we’ve covered.

The great thing about these, unlike tarsias, is that no two groups of students will come up with the same final web of concepts. They can be questioned as to the reasoning for certain linked concepts by their fellow students. It’s great tool for collaboration and generating discussions in class.
